Plagiarism Policy

Manuscripts submitted to FOSTER: Journal of English Language Teaching must be original, unpublished, and not simultaneously under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Any material reproduced verbatim from another source must be clearly distinguished from the author's original text through appropriate formatting, such as indentation or quotation marks, and must include a complete citation of the original source.

Material reproduced beyond reasonable fair-use standards, including substantial textual passages or graphic materials taken from another source, may require permission from the copyright holder and, where appropriate, the original author. The original source must always be properly identified.

When plagiarism is identified, the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the relevant editorial team, will determine the appropriate action according to the nature, extent, and seriousness of the plagiarism.

All authors are collectively responsible for the content and originality of the manuscript submitted to FOSTER: Journal of English Language Teaching. By submitting the manuscript and completing the journal's copyright documentation, authors acknowledge their responsibility for ensuring that the manuscript complies with the journal's publication ethics.

If a second case of plagiarism involving the same author or authors is identified, the Editorial Board, consisting of the Editor-in-Chief and relevant editorial members, will determine the appropriate measures based on the circumstances and seriousness of the case.

In serious or repeated cases, the author or authors may be prohibited from submitting manuscripts to the journal for an extended period or indefinitely, subject to the decision of the Editorial Board.

This policy also applies to material reproduced from another publication written by the same author or authors. Previously published text, figures, tables, data, or other material must be appropriately identified and referenced.

Authors who reuse material from their own previously published work must clearly identify the previous publication and explain the distinction between the previous work and the manuscript submitted to FOSTER. Appropriate permission from the copyright holder must also be obtained where required.

Authors must not submit a manuscript to FOSTER while the same or substantially overlapping manuscript is under consideration by another journal.

If substantial overlap with a manuscript simultaneously submitted to another journal is discovered during the review process or after publication, the editor of the other journal may be notified. The case may be treated as a serious publication-ethics violation and evaluated under the severe plagiarism provisions of this policy.

When authors reuse previously published material to clarify the presentation of new findings, the original publication must be properly identified and the distinction between the previous and current publication must be clearly explained. Permission to reproduce copyrighted material must be obtained from the relevant copyright holder where necessary.

If a manuscript was previously presented or published in conference proceedings and is subsequently submitted to FOSTER, authors must clearly identify the conference, the title or proceedings information, and the date of the original publication. Where the material has been published, appropriate permission from the copyright holder must be obtained.

The Editor-in-Chief may determine that a manuscript based substantially on previously published conference material is not suitable for publication in the journal.

Authors may use material, including visual presentations, from an unpublished academic presentation in a subsequent journal article, provided that such use does not violate copyright or other publication agreements.

If a manuscript was originally published in another language, authors must clearly identify the title, date, journal, and other relevant information about the original publication. Any translation and republication must comply with applicable copyright requirements and obtain permission from the copyright holder.

The Editor-in-Chief may consider translated republication where it provides a legitimate scholarly benefit and makes important research accessible to a wider audience. The original publication must be clearly acknowledged.

The journal may, where academically justified, consider republication of a previously published significant or historical article to provide context for a series of scholarly works. Any such republication must be explicitly identified as a republication and must include the details of the original publication.

Permission from the original author or authors and the relevant publisher or copyright holder must be obtained before republication.

The journal's designated editorial or administrative personnel are responsible for maintaining an internal record of authors who are subject to plagiarism-related penalties. Before processing a submitted manuscript, the journal may check whether any of the authors are currently subject to a submission restriction.

If a restricted author is identified, the matter will be referred to the Editor-in-Chief for appropriate action in accordance with this policy.
